Modem Voice Chat

Hello. We've had some people asking for a modem voice chat. There's two ways that we can do this.
1. Create a second chat server for modem users. You'd be able to access either.
2. Convert the current voice chat server to lower quality sound so modem users can log on.
Thoughts?

Is there a way to just make a channel on your room for dial-up users? I thought I've seen some servers have that, but maybe I'm mistaken. You know, you could have a slowpokes lounge or something for all those with slow connections and it would still be on your main room.

Not in Ventrilo, as far as I know, unfortunately.

A fello zoner who goes by Rowdyamerican had a ventrilo server, and he did the latter of the two suggestions, lowering the quality for those of us on a dialup connection, that would be a better way of doing it instead of putting in a second server, because you'd need two computers, just a thought.

I agree lowering the audio quality would be better cause then everyone still can access the same server. I have seen the case of where there was both and it didn't work well cause the dial up users couldn't meet everyone else at the same time. that would be my way of looking at it. thanks

My thoughts exactly, I mean why get a second server if yall have one already that can be tweaked, because a second would consume alot of bandwidth, I've seen that happen before.

OK. It now should be down to modem quality. We'll see how this goes.

well i'd personally have said to set up the second server, its not like they are limited to one server on a machine seeing as they have a lisence to run servers.

Well, this is still in beta, so if others feel that way, speak up.

Me personally, I feel that segragating those who are on slower connections isn't a good way to go, just a personal feeling. After all, wouldn't it cut down on bandwidth usage if you just kept the same server and just tweaked it down so that those of us less fortunate who can't get on a broadband connection have just as fare a chance at voicechatting as those who have good connections. Granted yall may have sufficient bandwidth, but just trying to give a practical point of view here so as not to drane your bandwidth on your end, and the usage does add up with the site, and a server plus all those who log on the site and or voicechat server, though I may be wrong, I just thought I'd just throw that out there for yall to ponder.

when i tried to use it, i got an error saying version incompatibility. I've had ventrillo a long time, it said server using 2.2 or something like that. anyway, it wouldn't work. sigh.
